I appear to have several options: United healthcare, Rocky Mountain Health Plan. It appears that to get decent coverage I have to pay somewhere between $60 & $120 or more. I have a very limited income and can't afford either of these amounts. What can I do?

Very Educational email about "Mom having a stroke", however this is a singular approach to a problem that now has other options. Due to the ever rising cost of Nursing Home Care, the Social Security Department and local Department of Human Services offer Medicaid waiver programs that allow seniors and other disabled persons who want to remain in their homes some other choices. There is an expanding field called Home Health Care, that may allow "Mom" to stay at home as long as possible. If the email about what would you do- had more details I could make my point. Maybe Mom lost her verbal skills but can still communicate through other methods? Paralyzed on one side is challenging but she still has some functioning skills to work with.
Guardianship(in my opinion should never be used under any circumstances- 1st you are taking someone's constitutional rights away from them. Second it takes their right to have any say, Ever, in their own care.) What if Mom is still in there and in time can learn to communicate by other methods, what if she is able to rehab and gain some mobility back? If she is unable to make choices, it should be a joint decision by not only family members but also with the advice of professionals such as Doctors, Social workers and yes, lawyers (if needed). A person can apply with social security to be a Representative Payee or even check with the local Department of Human Services for a "professional Rep Payee." This gives you the ability to manage their entitlements without taking their rights away and without becoming financially responsible for their bills.
If there is a family member who is able to care for Mom full time there are programs that will pay for that care, or they can send someone to the home. It is better if "Mom" lives in your home verses you moving in with Mom.
Income and Resources are a major factor in entitlement programs available. A family that thinks and talks about what if before it is needed is sure to have a much better outcome. Kind of the same as what do you think about having a baby... much better than guess what we're pregnant.
